New camera body - first test shots

Last week I purchased my dream camera body... The Canon 5D MKIII.  This was an upgrade from the 5D MKII.  Before I can take the camera into the field on commercial work, I need to make sure everything works as I expected it to, in particular, syncing my Canon 600 EXRT speedlites with the camera.  It is very important that I have this area of operation covered as I use my speedlites for all my location commercial work.

Fortunately my (ever suffering!) wife Lindsay was happy to be my guinea pig and pose for a portrait.  I have used a rather simple light set up for the shoot as shown below:-

  1. The key light is the small circular light modifier on the right of the image.  This is called a Beautybox and creates the stunning light on the face.  It has also put those pleasing circular catch lights in each eye.
  2. The rectangular light in the background is called a Stripbox.  I am using this to create soft highlights in Lindsay's curls on the right side of her hair as you look at the image.
  3. Finally, I am using a vintage wallpaper style backdrop

As you can see, the lighting set takes up very little space and creates a lovely portrait.
